Alumni of ETH, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in Zurich.

Founder-Director of The Product-Life Institute Geneva, since 1983

Head of Research – Extreme Events and Climate Risk, the Geneva Association,

before 1986 – 2013 Head of Risk Management Research and Vice Secretary General


In 2012, he was awarded a Doctor of the University, honoris causa, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of Sustainability, from the University of Surrey (UK).

In 2005, Stahel was appointed Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences of the University of Surrey, Guildford.

Full member of the Club of Rome.

In 1982, with a paper « The Product-Life Factor », Stahel was one of the laureates of the Mitchell-Prize Competition on sustainable societies in Houston, TX, USA.

In 1978, together with Peter Perutz, Stahel won a first prize in the competition of the German Future’s Society, Berlin, with a paper on unemployment, occupation and profession.
