Peter Styring is Professor of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry at The University of Sheffield, UK. His background is in Chemistry so his research if focused on the engineering of chemical reactions and processes. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer and Chemist. Peter is Director of the UK Centre for Carbon Dioxide Utilization and the CO2Chem Network, the latter having a current membership approaching 1000 worldwide. The Centre carries out fundamental and applied cross-disciplinary research in carbon dioxide capture and utilization and the Network promotes research collaborations and helps to drive policy at national and European levels.
Peter’s main research areas cover novel sorbents and processes for carbon dioxide capture and purification, processes for carbon dioxide utilization, including catalysts design, and techno-economic analysis of CDU processes. He is also an advisor to organisations such as DECC and BIS and is actively advising on political policy.
Peter is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Conference on carbon Dioxide Utilization (ICCDU) and will be Chair of the 14th conference to be held at the University of Oxford, UK in 2016. Peter is also Associate Editor of the open access journal Frontiers of Energy Research.
