Paul Joel joined Rhodia in 1989 after a Ph.D. on surfactant science at the Atomic Energy center (Saclay, France) and University of Paris. He is an Alumni from Ecole Normale Supérieure Fontenay-Saint Cloud and holds the Agregation of Physics.
After 11 years of various research positions both in France and in the United States with Rhone-Poulenc and Rhodia, Paul-Joel moved into business positions, including corporate strategy and business unit management. In 2004, he joined the Executive Committee of Rhodia in charge of Research & Development.
Paul Joel Derian is also non-executive Director of 2 start-ups : Deinove, a biotech company and Eight19 a photovoltaic company, spin-off of Cambridge University.
Paul-Joel is very active in promoting innovation and chemistry at the European Level with Suschem, the Sustainable Chemistry platform and at the national level with the French Federation of Chemical Sciences. In the education area, he wants to contribute by enhancing the connections between the industrial world and the academic and education ones through several positions on engineering schools and Universities boards.
