Carbon capture and storage (CCS) has received significant attention in recent years as one part of a global solution to control atmospheric CO2 concentration. However, very few of the proposed CCS solutions make practical use of CO2 as a raw material for higher value products due to the inherently low reactivity of the molecule. Novomer has developed a breakthrough catalyst system which enables CO2 to be efficiently polymerized into high value products.
Novomer’s high performance polyols are up to 50% CO2 by weight, have a 3-9x carbon footprint advantage vs. existing petroleum-based materials, and can be cost competitive with existing petroleum-based polyols at commercial scale. These polyols can be dropped in to a wide range of existing polyurethane applications including adhesives, coatings, foams, and elastomers. In polyurethane adhesive formulations, Novomer polyols deliver exceptional strength and adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. In addition, they are UV and hydrolytically stable, have excellent resistance to oil and chemicals, and are transparent. Novomer is partnering with leading polyol producers and product formulators to bring these high performance and sustainable adhesives to market.
