KOGAS DME Synthesis
Due to huge and increasing emission of CO2, CO2 utilization as CCR (Carbon Capture and Recycle or Reuse) is greatly acquiring attention beyond CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage). Chemical conversion of cheap and abundant CO2 in large scale would be proposed as CO2 alleviation as well as reducing fossil fuel consumption. However, using costly hydrogen for the activation of CO2 is unfavorable at this moment. Instead, utilization of CO2 as oxidant or oxygen source would be challengeable but desirable in the methanol/DME (Dimethylether) production, methane oxidative coupling, oxidative dehydrogenation of hydrocarbon to get corresponding olefins, and the formation of phenol, carboxylic acid, and carbonates through the help of catalysts due to the high stability of CO2. Status of DME demonstration plant will be reported and oxidative conversions using CO2 as oxidant will be discussed.
